Cape Bonsai Kai January 2017 Newsletter

From the President

Dear CBK Member,

I would like to thank the Committee for all the preparation they did for the show and particularly the Show-master, Kobus and our Secretary Frik.

The show of course revolves around the concept of "many hands make light work" and I would particularly like to thank everyone who helped set up the show and assisted with the break-down. It all went very smoothly. Thank you to all members who did duty and demonstrations at the show. I hope everyone enjoyed the show and got to know your fellow members a bit more. Thanks also to the judges- an essential component of our show.

The feedback I have received is that the Bonsai was of a very high caliber and the variety excellent. There were also many new bonsai on show which is very pleasing. The number on display 112.

I would like to wish all members and their family a happy family festive season from the Kai committee and may the New Year 2017 see your bonsai collection grow.

Kind Regards

Hennie Nel

Random Bonsai Tip

If surface roots are unequally spread around the trunk or if they are lacking completely you can drill holes and insert match sticks or make deep scars around the base of the trunk on the side where the roots are needed below soil level. Apply hormone powder and sphagnum moss; cover with plastic and keep moist. Leave for 6 months to 1 year for the roots to develop.
