Too much shade?

Q: I have a shaded area for my bonsai. As a result they have become rather elongated, with a loss of trunk thickness. Is there any remedy for this?

A: Elongated internodes are normally caused by shade and/or too much water with an absence of wind (i.e. if kept indoors). If no other spot is available grow only plants which normally grow in shaded areas (maples, etc.), reduce watering and increase nipping the young shoots. There certainly will be no loss of trunk thickness, this is only an optical illusion due to longer branches and longer leaves.
